Exhibitor Tips: Using Social to Increase Traffic to Your Booth

If you’re exhibiting at a trade show, it’s safe to assume that you want as much traffic to your booth as possible. There are several well-known methods to accomplish this–purchasing floor graphics, advertising in the event directory, and designing an attractive booth that catches the eye of attendees. These methods can successfully increase traffic to your booth; however, social media is a free method that many exhibitors aren’t utilizing because they don’t think it’s effective or simply don’t realize it can be a valuable tool. Here are a few ways exhibitors can increase traffic via social:

1. Post using the Official Hashtag

The first step when posting about an event is to use the official hashtag promoted by the event. This is a great way to join the conversation and network with other attendees, speakers and colleagues. Many attendees will scroll through Tweets using the official hashtag; as a result, this is a great way to increase the reach of your post. Additionally, many events have live hashtag feeds placed around the event. Why not take advantage of this free advertising?

2. Interact with Influencers Who Plan to Attend the Event

If you’re attending an industry trade show, it’s very likely there will be industry leaders also attending. Find out their @handle and send them a thoughtful tweet. When the industry leader responds, your @handle will be attached with their tweet, driving more traffic to your page. Additionally, the speaker may “retweet” you meaning they share your post with their followers.

3. Utilize the Event App

At many events, the official event app will have an activity feed where you can update a status. Drive traffic to your booth by updating your status. Don’t just tell people to stop by–tell them why they should stop by. Try to download the event app pre-show as you’ll be busy setting up your booth and speaking with potential leads during the show!
